photo of gallery exteriorThe Hurst Gallery is situated on the corner of Mount Auburn and Plympton streets in the Harvard campus area between Quincy and Adams House, behind the Harvard Lampoon building.

There is metered parking on the street; the nearest parking lots are located at The Inn At Harvard (Massachusetts Avenue near the intersection of Bow Street,) Holyoke Center (between Holyoke and Dunster Streets,) and The Galeria (on John F. Kennedy Street.)

Driving

From Storrow Drive (east or west)

  • Take Storrow Drive to the Longfellow Bridge, cross the Charles River and
  • proceed up John F. Kennedy Street to the intersection of Mt. Auburn Street (about three blocks).
  • Turn right and follow Mt. Auburn Street four blocks, crossing Dunster, Holyoke, Linden and Plympton Streets.
  • The gallery is on the left, behind the Harvard Lampoon building (a triangular building with a multi-colored door at the intersection of Bow and Mount Auburn.
  • Hurst Gallery uses 53 Mount Auburn Street as a mailing address. The front door of the gallery is actually at 30 Plympton Street. We occupy the first and second floors of the gray and red building, with large plate-glass windows facing south and west.

From Memorial Drive

  • The Gallery may also be reached from Memorial Drive.
  • Driving west from River Street intersection, where the Massachusetts Turnpike will leave you, pass through two traffic lights at Western Avenue and DeWolf Streets.
  • Turn onto Plympton Street immediately after the DeWolf Street intersection.
  • The gallery is straight ahead at the corner of 30 Plympton Street and 53 Mount Auburn Street.

From the Massachusetts Turnpike

  • Take Exit 18 (Cambridge/Allston) from the Mass Pike (east or west).
  • Exit towards Cambridge, pass through two traffic lights, cross the bridge
  • and make a left onto Memorial Drive on the Cambridge side of the Charles River.
  • Follow the directions above for reaching the Gallery from Memorial Drive.

From Route 93

  • Take the Storrow Drive exit and follow the exit ramp to the end,
  • where you will keep to the left, and go under an underpass.
  • Take Storrow Drive west for about 2 miles
  • Follow the directions above to the gallery from Storrow Drive.

Walking/Subway

  • Take the red line to the Harvard Square stop.
  • Leave the subway via the main exit, turn 180 degrees and walk east along Massachusetts Avenue (Au Bon Pan will be on your right and Harvard Yard across the street on your left) four blocks.
  • Turn right at the corner of Plympton Street and Massachusetts Avenue; Harvard Book Store is on this corner.
  • The gallery is two blocks down Plympton Street on the left. Bow Street Flowers occupies the adjacent northeast corner of our building and we share the front steps with the florist. Coming from this direction you will encounter their display before you see the Hurst Gallery windows or entrance.
