INDIAN AND PERSIAN MINIATURE PAINTINGS

ON DISPLAY AT HURST GALLERY

February 26th - March 19th, 2005

Hurst Gallery presents Indian and Persian Miniature Paintings, an assortment of approximately 25 paintings from the L. C. and P. Wyman Collection, with selected additions. A public preview reception will take place on Friday, February 25th from 5 - 8 pm.

Among the paintings are Mughal and Rajput portraits and courtly scenes, illuminations from the Shâhnâme, the Persian Book of Kings, and depictions of Hindu and Jain deities from Rajasthan and the Punjab Hills regions of India. The paintings date from the 17th to the 19th centuries. In many cases, well-known scholars of Indian art have offered attributions of style and dates for pieces from the Wyman collection. Nearly all of the paintings also have provenance records from the early 1950s and '60s in India, Iraq, England and America. A selection of three-dimensional objects from India will supplement the display of works on paper.

Meanwhile, arts of Asia, the Americas, the Pacific and the ancient world will continue to be exhibited on the first floor of the gallery. For more information about current or upcoming exhibits, please contact the gallery or visit www.hurstgallery.com.
